What the eye doesn't see the heart doesn't grieve

Does anyone know the meaning of this phrase?

What you don't know can't hurt you.

Perhaps I'm being persnickety, but I must respectfully disagree with you as one can "turn a blind eye" and have full knowledge of what they are refusing to examine. This is a poetic spin on "out of sight, out of mind".
