: What's the origin of the phrase, "It does not matter one iota?" I have a theory, but I doubt it's correct.

The letter Iota, which is the smallest in the Greek alphabet, came to imply the least of anything. The same occurred with the Hebrew yod which later came to be translated as Jot and is found in the phrase 'I don't give a jot' which is said when someone really doesn't care about what is going on.
