The archives on Dick

It is said to describe a tense situation. It may be a Southern thing.

Or a British thing. Typing "hatband" into the Search box produces previous rounds of Dick and his hatband.

It may have more than one meaning. But the only one I've heard (in West Virginia) is for tight -- "That jar lid is on tight as dick's hatband" or "headband."
