Float it

I had an idea for something and the person whom I told said to "Float it". What does this mean?

It means to try your idea out with other people to see if they like it and think it will work. I suppose it's a bit like creating a prototype of a ship and testing it on a small body of water to see if the principle behind the idea is sound, before actually building anything substantial.
