Turn somebody loose
What does this phrase mean, please?
It depends on the context, how it is used in a sentence. It could be used in the sense of "turning the dogs loose" to attack someone. "If they don't start starting doing their work, I'm going to turn Otis the office manager loose on them." Or it could be used to mean giving someone his or her freedom. "My children are in college. I've turned them loose."
"Cutting him loose," another phrase, means getting rid of someone.
