Gingerlady

Song from the Pogues;

Somtimes I wake up in the morning
The gingerlady by my bed
Covered in a cloak of silence
I hear you talking in my head

It seems obvious but what do you think "gingerlady" refers to?

My best guess: the songwriter is talking about hallucinating somebody on waking up. Maybe he calls her "gingerlady" just because that sounds exotic; maybe (a farther-out guess) she looks like a cookie, a gingerbread man but female.

None of this seems obvious to me.
