Poets are the snipers

"Words are the only bullets in truth's bandoleer. And poets are the snipers."

What is your question?

Who is the author and what is the orgin of the expression.

A google search seems to point to a science fiction book by Dan Simmons "Hyperion" (note "Truth" seems to be capitalised to personify it when the quote is reproduced on some web pages, but not on others): "Words are the only bullets in Truth's bandolier, and poets are the snipers." I'm a bit confused because there are references to "lyrics" as well -perhaps someone wrote a song based on the book or quote. I'll leave you to dig that bit out since I've never heard of it myself.
