"Stick It"

Where does the phrase "Stick It" come from?

I have always assumed that it means much the same as 'shove it'. The suggestion being that one sticks (or shoves) it up one's fundament. A dismissive comment to put it mildly.

Disney has a new movie out about girls' gymnastics called "Stick It". In this case, it's referring to "sticking the landing", i.e. a perfect dismount or landing from a gymnastic exercise.
