At 29 box, cried old Mrs. Cox

In "Fire! Fire! said Mrs. Maguire:" As a child in the 1930's we knew the third line as "At 29 box, cried old Mrs. Cox" instead of "Down town, said Mrs. Brown." Was ours a localism for Rochester, N.Y.'s "Corktown" or has anyone elsewhere heard of it?
