Corking hot

Can anyone place the origins of the Yorkshire phrase "Corking hot" when referring to the weather? I may have spelt 'corking' incorrectly, hence my lack of hits on Google. Usually used when the weather is really hot and/or humid, typical used in Yorkshire when describing a hot summers day as 'It's a corker today'. many thanks in anticipation.
