Baby needs a new pair of shoes

I am looking for the origin of the phrase "Baby needs a new pair of shoes" . I think the earliest I heard it was in an old black and white move of the 40's or 50's. The mother in the film prays for the shoes and money comes out of a vent or something in their apartment. Later turns out someone was hiding money there. She keeps doing this and the money keeps coming. A comedy. I know gamblers use it . Is this movie the origin?
