Couch surf

A grad student of my acquaintance will be between leases this summer. He said he plans to "couch surf" for a month. "Crash" at friends' apartments. I hadn't heard the phrase but I see it's already in the Urban Dictionary. www.urbandictionary.com
While looking for that term, I found "couching distance" -- referring to things like the remote that are within reach without getting up off the couch.
