: : hi!

: : I'm a finnish student girl and i'm asking meaning for a funny sentence from a song "papercup" performed by Heather Nova. So what does she mean by saying
: : " like nights in a papercup, when you wanted it to last"?

: : Thank you all!

: I found the lyrics, in case anyone wants context:
: Paper Cup

:
: Wishful thinking I might be yours
: Drifting on every step
: I'm always drawn to the dark horse
: Sweet sweet nothing's said

: And every dream is just a dream, after all
: And everything stands so still when you dance
: Everything spins so fast
: And the night's in a paper cup
: When you want it to last

: Wishful thinking you might be mine
: Every shiver sends
: One breath under the bridge of sighs
: Bending where the river bends

: And every dream is just a dream, after all
: And everything stands so still when you dance
: Everything spins so fast
: And the night's in a paper cup
: When you want it to last

: And every dream is just a dream, after all
: And everything stands so still when you dance
: Everything spins so fast
: And the night's in a paper cup
: When you want it to last

: And everything stands so still when you dance
: Everything spins so fast
: And the night's in a paper cup
: And you want it to last

: I'll leave the meaning up to those who think it meaningful....

Compared to some things I've read in the paper, this is meaningful. A paper cup is something temporary, something not expected to last, something with an ephemeral life. Tonight's pleasure might as well be in a paper cup, something that can't last. I suppose if it were in a glass tumbler or a crystal goblet it might last longer. At least the container would. SS
