Yes I saw a bit of the series here on Aussie ABC where tipping the velevet was explained by "charades" so wasn't sure if only applied to lesbians or wider.

As there were no such things as lesbians before the 1960s - it must have included men going down...

BTW - Getting the fondant out of Walnut whips (tm) and eating yoghurt from the pot are recommended training techniques.

I didn't actually see the TV series - was it deliciously raunchy or was it coy?

I didn't watch it long enough to judge. Overwrought young love. At least the part I saw.
