: I may be thick, but a recent radio advert, saying that its the quickest internet connection, "bar none", I just didnt understand! What does bar-none mean in this term? Thanks in advance.

"Bar" in this sense means barring, excluding, or with the exception of. Therefore "bar none" simply means "with no exceptions". As an aside, it's a very dangerous thing to use absolute superlatives in advertising, and expecially when they are scientifically provable or disprovable, because they tend to leave the advertiser open to later legal action.
