Surfing the web

From what I understood surfing the web had a different origin then the one posted on the site. I can't 100% recall where I read it though I will look into it further, but, from what I've read, it originally was called "Surfing the web" by a woman in an interview. She noted it as surfing the web because she had a mouse pad with a surfer on it. Has any one else ever heard this?
