Just came up when I was working on something else. People in 2003 seemed to agree it was Southern origin...how right they are...Daniel Tucker was Governor of Bermuda about 1661...he was,to say the least eccentric and erratic. The song was made up about him then. It is fascinating to see it is about people in the 1800's. I suspect anyone named Dan Tucker got lumbered with it.Maybe the same happened to Governor Tucker in 1661. Ward
