: : Does anyone know the origin of the term twenty four - eighty. I saw an Old Nancy Drew film from 1939 where the term was used several time. Often it was used as "I'll bet you twenty four eighty" There appeared to be no context comment in the film. I thought it must have been a term from the time period.

: Could it possibly be 20 for 80 as in making a wager? I'll bet you dollars for donuts!

That is possible. I will need to look back at the movie to look at the other uses of the phrase to be sure. That certianly didnt come to mind when I was watching it the first time.
