Failure/Defeat

: "Admitting failure is completely different from accepting defeat". What does this mean? Is this a play on words or real philosophical inspiration.
It doesn't serve as a good example of either of those. Without knowing what the person who said it had in mind, I can imagine a meaning for it: "I made a mistake, but all is not lost."
