United we stand...

Posted by Tom Pennington on November 28, 1999 I spent the majority of this afternoon going
from quote site to quote site to links to rings
trying to find 'united we stand divided we fall'.
Apparently after that wasted effort,it isn't a
direct quote. Can anyone tell me who coined the
phrase? Is it the Readers Digest version of a
quote by Tecumseh?
