'in the chair'

Has anyone heard the phrase 'in the chair'? I was told I was to be 'in the chair' tonight as a result of my retirement. Does it relate to drinking heavily or retirement?

Nope. Chairman's seat? Rocking chair? Electric chair? Seat of honor?

Perhaps "in the hot seat" if they are planning the retirement party as a roast.

It means that you will be paying for the drinks.

It is a well-known phrase to Eastpondians.
